WolfPrint: Improved Student Experience

Written by Nikki Faison.

With the 2025 Fall Semester hitting its stride, the WolfCopy team is providing a summary of the recently completed changes to WolfPrint student printing. In response to student body feedback, the team focused on delivering a more intuitive and efficient user experience.

Enhancing the WolfPrint Experience for Students

Our goal was simple: enhance user satisfaction by simplifying the printing process. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of our technical partners in the Office of Information Technology (OIT), the WolfPrint team successfully implemented three key changes that directly impact the daily use of WolfPrint:

  • Retirement of the Web Print Service
  • Simplified Printing Process
  • Improved Printer Location Map
Area of ChangeRationaleImpactSupport Focus
1. Retirement of Web Print serviceTo standardize the printing method that is simplest for end-users.Web Print service was retired over Fall Break (October 13–14). Students must now use Mobility Print for all personal device printing which offers full functionality across all operating systems.Direct users to the simplified, 3-step guide: Mobility Print – 3 Easy Steps to Print!
2. Simplified Printing ProcessDirectly addresses student feedback regarding clunky multi-step authentication. We eliminated the extra online authentication step that was required in the previous PaperCut workflow. This results in a faster, more fluid Mobility Print workflow.Advise students that they no longer need to authorize jobs online; all release and charging occurs at the Multifunction Printer (MFP).
3. Improved Printer Location MapTo eliminate the perennial issue of students searching for printers.A user-friendly Printer Location Map is now live on the Find a Printer page. This map provides clear printer attributes and directions, significantly improving campus accessibility to the service.Encourage staff to use and reference the map when giving directions to students looking for a specific printer type or location.

Collaboration and Support Going Forward

Effective collaboration was the key. While the OIT WolfPrint team handled the retirement of Web Print services, the WolfCopy team focused on a communication plan that would minimize confusion and maximize clarity for our student customers. We created the Mobility Print – 3 Easy Steps to Print! guidance for both the website and as student handouts. We then participated in WolfPack Welcome Week, where we assisted new and returning students with questions about Mobility Print installation, the new workflow and printer locations. This face-to-face interaction was invaluable in ensuring a smoother transition for our student population.

We encourage faculty and staff to familiarize themselves with the enhancements to student printing (WolfPrint). These updates significantly enhance the overall digital campus experience. By understanding the shift away from Web Print and the simpler Mobility Print workflow, you can confidently field student questions or accurately direct them to the appropriate resources. For any specific technical issues related to the Mobility Print installation or printer configuration, please direct students to the official WolfPrint Knowledge base or the NC State Helpdesk via the  IT Service Portal or call 919-515-HELP (4357).
