Buying Surplus Property
Public sales are held the Second and Fourth Thursday of each month. Please review the ‘Public Sale Dates’ flyer for dates and times.

- Purchases must be removed no later than 11 a.m. the day after the sale.
- Face coverings are optional but highly suggested while indoors.

The NC State Surplus Restore is open to university department authorized buyers Monday through Friday. Exception: the floor is not open for departmental purchases the morning of the public sale. Departmental purchases can be made during the public sale. University departments are strongly encouraged to browse the Surplus Property inventory first before purchasing new, more expensive supplies and equipment. University Departments’ Surplus Sale Guidelines
- All items are on a first-come, first-served basis and are sold as-is.
- Items are not reserved for purchase.
- Prices are non-negotiable and may not be changed during the course of the sale.
Authorized Buyers
- All asset management coordinators and MarketPlace shoppers are authorized to purchase surplus items.
- To become an authorized buyer, see your department SAR administrator.
- Your unity I.D. and a valid project number are required to purchase surplus.
- All surplus property purchases are processed through the Financial System and visible in the Wolfpack Reporting System.
Departmental Delivery
- If needed, departments may arrange for delivery. A delivery fee will be determined by size and complexity of the delivery.
Buying from Federal Surplus
- Access Federal surplus here.
- Gain authorization from your department head:
- Print this Federal Surplus Authorization form.
- Complete the form with name, department, project ID and email.
- Request a dean or department head signature.
- Email the completed form to the NC State Surplus Office, surplus_property@ncsu.edu.
- Questions? Contact the Surplus Property Receiving Coordinator at 919-515-5525.
- Present the signed form along with your campus ID at the Federal Surplus warehouse.
- Federal Surplus Warehouse accepts CASH ONLY for payment.
NC State surplus items are available for purchase by state agencies, nonprofit organizations, K–12 Schools and other universities, before they are offered to the general public.

State Agencies’ Surplus Sale Guidelines

Approved 501(c)(3) Organizations
- An organization’s approval must be obtained through the NC Department of Administration.
- A copy of the approval letter is required to make a purchase.
- All buyers listed in the approval letter are eligible to make purchases on behalf of the agency.
- Any organization seeking approval for 501(c)(3) status must complete & submit a Qualification Request.

After You Purchase
- Purchased items must be removed no later than 11 a.m. the day after the sale.
- If you are not taking the sold items with you immediately, please put a sold tag on them, which are available at the sales counters.
